A shared day trip from Marrakech means a minibus or van with other travellers, a fixed route with fixed stops, and the pace of the group. The private option keeps the route but gives you the car, the driver and the timing. On a few trips it also changes what is included. It is priced per group, so it gets better value the more of you there are.

  • Boat ride and local guide in option 1, 3 and private
  • Barbary macaques along the paths

About this trip

The most-reviewed Ouzoud trip runs in several options that differ clearly in what is included. The cheapest option is self-guided: transport and free time only, with no local guide and no boat ride. Option 1 adds the guide and the boat, and only option 3 and the private trip include lunch; otherwise lunch is paid in cash on site.

The drive takes about three hours each way with a coffee stop, so you spend about four hours at the falls and return around 19:00. Medina riads that the van cannot reach get a meeting point five to ten minutes’ walk away.

What’s included

  • Pickup and return in an air-conditioned minibus
  • Driver and guide for the transfer
  • Local guide and boat ride (not in the self-guided option)
  • Lunch (option 3 and private only)
  • Free time at the falls

Not included

  • Local guide and boat ride in the self-guided option
  • Lunch in options 1 and 2, payable on site
  • Drinks and water

Pickup and meeting point

Pickup at your hotel or riad between 7:30 and 8:00. For places in the medina that the van cannot reach, a meeting point five to ten minutes’ walk away is arranged.

Know before you go

  • Bring cash for lunch and drinks if your option does not include them
  • Keep a safe distance from the Barbary macaques
  • Return to Marrakech around 19:00

How big is a shared group?

Most listings do not say. Where they do, the caps differ: marrakech city travel takes up to seventeen guests to Ouzoud, the Imlil hike by Tours From Marrakech up to fifteen, and the three-valley trip on Viator up to fourteen, with a minimum of two per booking. Reviewers of the five-valley trip by Attractive Tours mention groups of two and seven. On the big Agafay evenings one reviewer describes too many people in the same place at the same time.

How a shared group shapes the day

Time, mostly. A shared van collects every guest before it leaves the city, and pickup on some trips takes thirty to forty minutes. At the destination the group sets the pace; one Ourika reviewer spent the walk waiting for a family the guide kept close to. On the long drives the seat matters too: reviewers of an Essaouira trip describe a cramped back row and broken air conditioning. A private booking avoids the first two; the road stays as long.

Prices and booking

Private options appear on the same booking page as the shared trip, as a separate option at a higher price; how much more depends on the trip and the group size, so compare the options for your number of people. The price shown on this site is always the cheapest option of a trip.

Walks at your own pace

For walking trips a private guide changes the day most. The Imlil walks by Tours From Marrakech and Trekking Morocco already adjust their length to the group, and on the three-valley trip the guide asks how far you want to go. With a private booking that decision is yours alone. See the Atlas and Imlil page for the walking on each trip.

What guests say about private and shared days

Guests on private and shared trips alike praise guides who looked after the whole group, whether a family, friends or a mixed group of nationalities. One reviewer of a busy Agafay evening found the camp crowded.

“We had a great guide, Hamza, who was very knowledgable and a great guy in general! He made our trip super interesting and seamless. We booked a private tour so he really accommodated everything for us. The transportation was great too!”
Hassan · United Kingdom · September 2026 Ait Benhaddou & Ouarzazate · Click Excursions
“Too many people in the same place at the same time. And moving from one activity to another too quickly. I'm small, and I couldn't see anything at the cooperative or the show.”

“Excellent service from Abdeljalil he was very kind and supportive of me and my girlfriend everything was perfect thank you so much Abdeljalil as he speaks English fluently which was helpful for her I will definitely be booking again!”

“Really great day out. Tour GUIDE Anis was excellent, went out of his way and looked after a mixed nationality group very well. Guide up the waterfall was also great. Looked after us and made sure we where safe on the hike. Nice food in a relaxed environment …”

FAQ

Is a private day trip from Marrakech worth it?

For two people on a short trip the shared trip usually does the job. For a family or a larger group, and on long days like Ait Benhaddou or Ouzoud, the private option often makes the day easier. Compare the option prices for your group size.

Does a private trip include more?

Mostly the same programme with your own car and driver. On the Ando Ouzoud trip the private option also includes the guide, the boat and lunch.

Can I change the route on a private trip?

The programme stays as listed on the booking page. If you want changes, ask the operator through the booking platform before you book.
