The stop at Lalla Takerkoust

Lalla Takerkoust is a reservoir at the edge of the Agafay plateau, with the Atlas behind it. Only the trip by Marrakech Day Trips - Tours builds it into the route: about 46 minutes from Marrakech to the lake for photos and the quad safety briefing, then roughly a quarter of an hour on to the desert. Its start shifts between two and four in the afternoon so that the camel ride falls at sunset. The other trips drive straight to their camp.

What costs extra at the camp

Dinner is in the price of every Agafay trip. The add-ons are elsewhere, and each trip has its own:

  • Moroccoguidesmile picks you up free of charge only at central meeting points. A pickup at your hotel is an extra.
  • Marrakech Day Trips - Tours seats two people on one quad. Riding alone is a separate, more expensive option.
  • At the Mouslih tour camp, table water, lemonade, tips and the pool are listed as not included. TRIGADOS also charges for the pool.
  • On the overnight trip, a quad and soft drinks cost extra; alcohol is not included.

Camels and the cooperative stop

The camel rides here last fifteen to twenty minutes; on the overnight trip the ride is an add-on rather than part of the evening. Children can ride together with an adult on the Mouslih tour evening. If you would rather not ride, or the camels at your camp look tired, you can skip the ride without missing the rest of the evening. Some of these trips also stop at a women’s argan cooperative on the way out, which ends in a shop.

Not the Sahara

Agafay is a plateau of stone and bare hills, not sand dunes. The dunes of Merzouga lie on the far side of the High Atlas, a tour of two or three days; our sister site Marrakech Sahara compares those tours. Agafay gives you the desert light and a camp dinner without a night on the road.

Warm layers in winter
